Last week’s meeting was our last quarterly informal whole club affair before the AGM. Those present discussed our plans for booking hard boats next year. It was agreed that we will book 2 weekends. The Farnes boat is booked for June and we will probably book Plymouth. In addition there will be a week abroad, Malta was a suggestion. We, as a club, receive invitations regularly to fill spaces with other clubs. This year we booked so many trips ourselves we haven’t been able to take advantage of many but I always acknowledge the invitations and they will continue to come so there will be plenty of opportunity for hard boat diving for everyone. We will also do as many runs to the coast as possible for shore diving and it is usually possible to find last minute spaces on boats going out. If anyone has an idea for a trip and needs help with the planning or organisation please just ask.
We also discussed the possibility of bringing everyone’s MarlinSAC membership into line. Individual BSAC membership would remain the same as many of us pay direct and it would be too messy to change. By changing the branch fee due date to 1st April for everyone it would make the treasurer’s and membership secretary’s jobs much easier. It was suggested that we email everyone so that those not present can express any disagreement, so that will be done. Otherwise as memberships now become due the membership secretary will calculate the pro rata fees to take us until 1st April 2011 or 2012 as appropriate.
Next on the agenda was the forthcoming AGM in October. The four current officers have written a job description and their personal view of each role, which Richard printed and handed out. If anyone would like a copy I’m sure he can email you one. The aim of this was to ensure that all members know they can be nominated for election, either for one of the 4 officer positions (DO is a bit special) or as a general member, of which we are required to have between 2 and 8. Ideally there will be some continuity on the committee but also new blood with fresh ideas.
Thanks to everyone who came and helped with the decision making.

Congratulations this week to:-
Richard for being awarded the Sports Diver qualification and to Joe for giving his first award as DO.

Plymouth
Our planned trip to Plymouth last weekend was cancelled at the very last minute on Friday morning by the skipper. He could have found somewhere to drop us in on Saturday but no chance on Sunday so we decided it was best to cancel or postpone. We’ve asked for the deposit back and also for an indication of what they can offer us in the next couple of months. We’ll keep you posted. Jim kindly sent a message from Plymouth a few days later to inform us that the weather was now glorious but he didn’t have any kit with him. Probably for the best eh Jim?
Stoney News
Stoney Cove is inviting all divers to enter its 2010 Charity Treasure Hunt which will be run from Saturday 17th July until 10am Monday 30th August 2010.
In 1963 divers came from all over the United Kingdom to find buried treasure in the form of 100 golden guineas, we had a deco link to film of the event a few weeks ago. Stoney Cove and George Tarratt the Jewellers have teamed up to re-produce the Treasure Hunt of 1963. However, instead of 100 Guineas an Omega Planet Ocean watch is the star prize with other prizes for the lucky ‘hunters’
These charities will each receive an equal ¼ share of ALL money that is raised. Every penny raised will be divided out.

The charity ‘treasure’ will be in the form of a metal coins. These will be placed in strategic places throughout the shallower water. There will be NO metal coins placed any deeper than 22 metres intentionally.
When a diver finds a metal coin he or she is invited to take it to the shop and present it to the staff. With the donation of £5.00 they will be entered into the prize draw. Divers can enter as many times as they like, providing they produce a metal coin and donate £5.00. They will be no limit to the number of individual entries.
The prize draw will take place on Bank Holiday Monday at 4pm at Stoney Cove. The winners must be available to have their photograph taken and will be notified by phone.
