Sport England Grant Gets Us Into the News

A visit to Stoney Cove last month to buy new kit paid for by the lovely people at Sport England got us a section in their monthly newsletter. A big thank you to all those that had a part in filling out all the paperwork, it all paid off in the end. Stoney Cove wrote: It’s always great to be part of a successful bid for grant aid for scuba diving. And thi stime it’s the turn of Marlin SAC, based in Nuneaton. Garry, Cathy and Steve, the leading lights in the club, have worked their socks off to secure a massive...

We have been asked to make you all aware of some local kit for sale. The guy selling called in to the club and asked if we wouldn’t mind advertising this collection to our members. It has been unused for the past 2 years. Any questions about the kit should be directed to the number on the list. New members please remember to check with an instructor before purchasing any kit, they can give you a lot of advice and stop you from buying the wrong thing . For sale list – Non member

Weekly Deco

While the majority of our members were either away in the sunshine or on the boat journey from HELL around Cornwall, seven of us met at the Pingles last night to try out some underwater acrobatic techniques. I don’t think we’re quite ready for a synchronised event but everyone gave it their best shot and said it was worth doing.Out of interest, Biddie said she did a sponsored event removing and replacing her kit underwater a few years ago and raised a substantial amount for charity. Next week everyone should be back from their travels and there will be...

Plymouth WeekendDid anyone not know we went to Plymouth? We learned a valuable lesson. Never check weather reports before you go anywhere. With torrential rain and gale force winds forecast we decided to leave the boats at home and pack expedition type clothing. We spent the weekend watching other boats whizzing around on the flat calm sea in the sunshine. It was bikini weather but Kev had left his at home. I believe he’s packed his thong for the Scillies week. He has been warned that Lisa will stick a fork in anything which looks like a sausage. I...

Photography SDCLast Saturday morning nine of us, plus Joe who was instructing, made our way to the Anker Valley canoe clubhouse in Hartshill for the theory lectures of the Photography SDC. Our first challenge was to find the place as despite having a post code and a map drawn by Jim we spent 20 minutes driving up and down country lanes. We were finally hailed by Joe at the gate. As we parked we were met by Jim (who drew the map remember) saying “Oh did you get lost too?” He’d also spotted Nik driving around so we didn’t feel...

Branch Training Activities Thank you to everyone who made the effort to attend the first aid lecture last night and to Kevin for putting in so much enthusiasm as usual. It was clear that some of us needed more refreshing than others, and for some this was totally new. Next week we move on to part 2 but before that we’ll be at The Anker Valley canoe clubhouse, Applepie Lane, Hartshill, Nuneaton CV10 0SU tomorrow, for the Photography SDC. Don’t forget to check the calendar: https://www.marlinsac.com/about/calendar/ Or the pool marshal list (Ask the committee for the password!): https://www.marlinsac.com/members-area/pool-marshal-rota/

Happy New Year Everyone Considering how cold, dark and wet it was last night we had a reasonable and boisterous turn out for our first meeting of 2012, with 17 members and 3 guests, including one try diver. We’re hoping that talk of Kevin’s doo dah, Eoin’s penchant for wearing women’s clothing and Joe’s suggestion that he would wear a Rah Rah skirt to show his support for Eoin in New Zealand will not have frightened the try diver away. He said he’d had a good night with Kevin and promised to return next week but was last seen...
