45m wreck weekend, Eyemouth

Just two club members (Martin and Garry) joined this trip to the deeper wrecks that lie between the Firth of Forth on the east coast of Scotland, and the Farne Islands in Northumberland. We dived and stayed with Marine Quest in Eyemouth. It took about 4.5 hours to get to Eyemouth on Thursday afternoon; we arrived in time for a pie and a pint at our usual haunt, the Contented Sole pub by the harbour. Over dinner we revisited our decompression and gas strategies, having opted for twinsets of helitrox (26/17) as back gas to minimise narcosis, and a...

“Best of the South West” trip 2018

Marlin Sub-Aqua Club, consisting of Steve, Garry, Martin and Rob, were back in Plymouth on the 2nd of July 2018 for the Best of South West tour with indeep diving. Only Steve and Garry were in Plymouth and diving on the Monday. Martin arrived later that evening and I began my journey at 03:30 the following morning. Tuesday 3/7/18 Today myself and Martin joined Steve and Garry...

This time it was Plymouth, on the English...

Hill Hole Quarry: Crayfish rescue!

A little tired from four days diving in the sea off Plymouth; I’d driven back home the night before. Now the alarm was going off again. It was 6am. The sun was shining. Today was the second site in our Midland Pools Project: Hill Hole Quarry. Our aims, as before, were to investigate what lay beneath the water, do a preliminary survey, and remove what rubbish we could. We’d got permission to dive, and a key to the site, from Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council. Rob and Ellie picked me up at 7.15am and we set off for Markfield....
