Marlin Sub-Aqua Club has updated various policies to comply with new data protection legislation.

As the song goes:
He’s making a list
He’s checking it twice
He’s gonna find out who’s naughty or nice
Santa Claus is in contravention of the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679

But not Marlin Sub-Aqua Club!

We take your privacy seriously and so have taken a number of steps to ensure compliance with the new law. This has included an audit of the data and processes we apply, and the creation of an improved Privacy policy and Acceptable usage policy. These comply with GDPR, and can be found on links at the footer of each page on the website.

We implemented SSL on our website earlier this year (you’ll have seen the closed padlock and https address, I’m sure 🙂 ), and have today moved to a new server to improve our ability to maintain security in the future.

The introduction of an electronic “Club Management System” by BSAC earlier this year means you can be assured your personal data is stored securely. You can see and amend the data held by logging on to MyBSAC. Only the four Branch Officers have access to this from our side. An important change is that you now need to maintain your Medical Declaration electronically via MyBSAC to ensure your third party insurance remains in place.

We process some of your data in order to fulfill your membership subscription; this is covered by the Privacy policy and remains lawful. You have previously consented to our use of your data in certain other optional ways. Our audit concluded that we should demonstrate consent for certain other activities, not least your continued membership of our mailing list. With this in mind we will be asking you to confirm your preferences in the coming days.

If you have any queries or concerns regarding data protection don’t hesitate to contact us.
